Looking good there Fruit Cake, your anatomy and scale are good. If your interested in my suggestions, I think you need to work in a little more depth via different levels of black. Looking at it now, I see that you have white, then a very similar grey tone for all the shading, and a black in the hair. Lets see a little more depth in the shadows. Don't be afraid to screw it up, just go for it, if you do screw it up, move on to the next one or do it again. When I get a chance I will do a little overpaint to show you what I'm thinking.
Thanks, there Joshie. I am always interested in your thoughts. I think the india ink is reproducing in grey tones. I read that can happen, and I used a pretty fine nib. I may ink the next one in exclusively black magic, which is supposed to show up true black in a scan.
You are right, though, I am always afraid to "lose" the art in the inking process. I have to get over that. I think I'll work on a Batman piece next, which will force me to use the brush a lot and use some heavy tones.
Also, I plan to throw up a page or two from the series I've been working on. Thanks for commenting, tough guy. Keep it coming!
check this out, I may have gone a bit overboard, as I typically do and always have: http://www.arvirobots.com/Joshes/Wolverine.jpg
This is what I was kind of thinking with varying the depth. Another trick is to also play with many different types of paper, each one will take the ink differently.
Anyway, I'm working on one that I will pass off to you to play with, I'll let you know when its ready.
Nice. Looks good. I see exactly what you mean. I think, for me, it will require the brush fading into varying levels of crosshatching. I might use the black magic for the dark, dark areas, and india ink as the dark areas fade to grey, and the crosshatching gets wider.
I'm looking forward to seeing what you are working on. Let me know when it's up. I am about 3/4 of the way through a Batman sketch that I'll post next. It's nice to be on paternity leave . . .
